CHAPTER 3
Precious stood straight, everything was back to normal and attention was no longer on her as everyone looked at Steven who was in front of the class, speaking with the teacher. Precious took her seat slowly. "Are you fine?" Bimpe asked. "Yes..." Precious nodded. "...thanks" she added.
The next day, Mr Darasimi dropped his daughter off in school and went on his 3weeks business trip. As Precious walked towards her classroom, she wondered how she was supposed to cope in the house alone with her father and Dolapo gone. Precious was initially angry at Dolapo for leaving the house without informing her when she found out after returning home from school the day before, buh she knew Dolapo was leaving soon, she knew what she was going through in her own home and even that Dolapo wouldn't tell her about her resigning. Precious didn't like doing the house chores or cooking, buh she didn't want any other house helps in their house, in fact, she didn't want to start getting used to someone else like she was used to Dolapo. She'd rather clean the house herself, and she could learn the cooking too. After all, she was a fast learner, and a lady too.
Precious entered the class slowly. In front of the class, she stopped abruptly, seeing someone strange on her seat, the person wasn't in the school's uniform and seemed to have long hair, like a female's hair and was looking out the window. The person turned to her from her seat, and Precious knew instantly that it wasn't a person, the face kept changing, and she was reminded of the people she had seen in class the day before when Steven seemed missing in class. She was sure it was them, buh who were they? How were they able to make themselves appear as one person, 7 persons in a single body form. They looked again out the window, and Precious moved quickly to another window to check what they were looking at. The few students in class looked to her and away, no one seemed to care. Precious looked out the window, there was Steven in his school uniform and a green jumper, what did this creature have to do with Steven?
"Precious" Precious heard her name in an echo, she knew instantly that it was the people on her seat that called her, that was their multiple voice that had distracted her the day before and almost made her faint. Precious turned to them, they were standing now, and as soon as she faced them, she heard one of her classmates, Kayode, greet Steven. "Hello Steven" Kayode said from his seat as Steven entered the class. Precious faced him, didn't she just see him outside? Precious refused to be crazy. She looked on at Steven as he shaked Kayode whose seat was in front of his, before taking his seat, looking at Precious. Precious started towards her seat, they were no longer there, she knew for sure that these people knew Steven, she didn't want to be involved, buh if she was the only one who could see them, then they were definitely calling her attention, she didn't know what for, buh if she didn't ask, they still wouldn't leave her be.
As soon as Precious took her seat, Steven approached her. "Good morning" he said calmly. Precious nodded uninterestedly. "Are you okay?" He asked. Precious looked at him, his glowing neck chain caught her attention again, buh she ignored it. Did he think she'ld be okay after seeing something no one else could see? "I'm fine" Precious said and looked away. "Do you need me to stop them?" Steven asked. "Do as you wish" Precious shrugged, going through her school bag. She took out a notebook. She heard Steven drop something on the table and she looked up, it was his neckchain. "Put it on" he said. "Why?" She asked with a shrug. "I just want things to be clear" Steven said. Precious looked down to zip her bag, and when she looked up again, Steven wasn't there anymore. She knew it was about time she got used to his disappearance. She looked out the window, and in front of the forest, she saw Steven with the people she had seen on her seat earlier. Precious felt annoyed and looked away, there was no assembly probably because there was no special announcement, she felt the need to prepare for class. She looked again at the neckchain he left and picked it up.
At an open space inside the forest, Steven stood with his friends. One after the other, they stepped out of the one body they shared and formed a rough circle together with Steven. All together, there were 4 boys and 4 girls. "Why do you keep appearimg?" Steven asked. "Well, Dasola refuses to stay with us" Lucy said, she had a long brown wavy hair, and was dressed in a cream turtle neck cardigan, short brown skirt, and a pair of brown boots. "She says you'll forget her" Tola added. She was on low cut and wore a dark blue cardigan, black leather trousers and a black wedge heels. "You all know I'm doing my job, the master sent me to bring her back" Steven said. "There is more to it Steve" Dolapo said. Steven sighed as he faced her. "No one, not even me has ever worn your neck chain, buh she's wearing it now, isn't she?" Dolapo asked, her tone was without expression like that of Lucy and Tola. They all tend to speak without emotions.
"Hearing what Dalapo said, Precious looked up from the book she was trying to concentrate on. "The neck chain allowed her to hear whatever it was they were saying.
"Morning Precious" Bimpe greeted her with a smile as she took her seat. Precious turned to her "Hi" she said with a little smile. Precious could hear the sound of running in the forest, then she heard Steven's voice "I'll get her" he said. Precious took off the necklace, she needed to focus on her studying, even though she knew now that she had no interest in what she was reading.
Mrs Bright entered the class and everyone settled quickly. "Good morning everyone, hope we're getting used to school again" she said and opened the register book she had on the teachers' table. "Is anyone absent today?" She asked, looking up at her students again. "No ma'am, buh Steven is not in class presently" Kolade said. "One of the new kids?" Mrs Bright asked. "Yes ma'am" Kolade replied. "His bag's here buh I haven't seen him today" Iwalewa said, he had left the class before she arrived. "Who has seen him today then?" Mrs Bright asked. "He spoke last with Precious, and he hasn't been seen since then" Kolade said. His statement caught Precious' attention and she looked up, she was annoyed again, why did Steven always have to go invincible after speaking with her? Mrs Bright turned to Precious. "Precious" she called. "Yes ma'am" Precious stood slowly. "Do you know where he went?" Mrs Bright asked. She did know, buh she couldn't tell them he was outside the school, and in a forest as a matter of fact. "He-um..." Precious stammered.
