CHAPTER 9
Precious entered the house, she could hear the little sounds that came from the kitchen. Steven and Lola followed slowly behind her and closed the door after them. As Precious headed towards the dining room which was beside the living room, a lady came from the kitchen and stopped as Precious stopped. Precious could see a handbag on the dining table and assumed that it was for the lady. Precious didn't fully recognize the lady, but she knew she was supposed to know her, she looked so familiar. "Precious?" The lady called. Previous tilted her head a little to indicate that she didn't know who the woman was. The lady smiled and moved a little closer. "I'm Kate, your dad told me to stay with you for a while" Kate said. "Have we met before?" Precious asked. Kate nodded, "Yes, buh you were very little then, I had to stop coming a few years after your mother passed because your father didn't want me around" Kate said, rather soberly. Precious wondered why she was still here then if her father didn't want her around back then. Precious nodded. "You want anything to eat?" Kate asked. "No, no I'm fine, I had breakfast before heading out" Precious replied. "And your friends?" Kate asked. Precious looked back at Steven and Lola in the dining room who were now taking their seats. The two nodded no and Precious looked back at Kate. Kate gave a faint smile. "Alright then" she said. "I was arranging some groceries earlier, I think I'll get back to that" Kate nodded slowly and turned to leave.
"Kate" Previous called. "Yes" she replied as she looked at her again. "Were you very close to my mum?" Precious asked quietly. Kate sobered a little. "Yes, I was" Kate replied. Precious wondered if Kate understood the closeness she was talking about, she didn't think anyone would be close enough to her mother to know her secrets because even her father didn't seem to know it. Precious swallowed and nodded. "I'll go up to my room with my friends, thanks for the groceries" Precious pressed her lips into a tight smile as Kate headed for the kitchen. Precious turned to Steven and Lola. "Come on" she said and turned to the stairs between the dining room and the sitting room and the other two stood to follow her.
Precious' reading chair was turned to face her bed. Steven sat on it and she and Lola sat on the end of the bed, facing him. "You'll be able to do the whole talking?" Precious asked. Steven nodded, "There's a long morning rite every Saturday, and it's still a few minutes past nine, it should end around eleven, we should have finished the talking and partial planning by then" Steven said. Loka looked lost as she looked from Steven to Precious. "I'll start" Steven said. The two girls faced him again, buh he was fixed on Lola.
"The day you fainted in school, did you see anything?" He asked. "No, I did hear a conversation, I thought it was from the book I was reading, but the lines didn't match" Lola shrugged. "You remember what you heard?" Steven asked. "Not really, I know I heard your voice" Lola said. Steven nodded. "You didn't notice any thing on your neck did you? Like a necklace?" He asked. "I wore a necklace to school that day, it was gone after I woke up in the clinic" Lola said. "After?” Precious looked surprised. Lola faced her and nodded. Precious looked at Steven, that would be with Dasola if she didn't throw it out" She said. "What's going on?" Lola was more curious, "Who's that?" She added. "I uh, I have a group of friends, Dasola's one of them" Steven said.
"The ones I told you about before" Precious added.
Lola nodded "They don't attend our school, do they?"
"No, we grew together" He replied.
"How did she get my necklace then, she isn't even a student?"
Precious looked at her "She didn't put it off after you fainted, she took it when I wasn't on seat, and put another necklace on you, I took that off after you fainted" Precious said. Lola was confused and speechless. She sighed a little. "Why are you telling me this?" She asked.
"Anyone who calls on His Name will be saved" Steven replied. Lola knew the sentence from the church, her teacher often read it out from the Book, buh maybe not in those exact words. "What do you want to be saved from?" Lola swallowed, she understood a bit of what they were saying now. "They're trying to get me to join them, that's why Steven came to the school. Buh he had met with my mother before, she was a part of them before she got married, then she started attending the church and trying to ignore them, buh she got imprisoned instead. She told Steven about a way to get rid of these people, buh neither of us is skilled enough in the knowledge of Him" Precious said. "It's good that you know the Savior, it's a real step to freedom" Lola nodded slowly, she was almost speechless. "How close are you to Him?" Steven asked. "Very, and He's Omnipresent so you know" Lola said. "I do, I've been reading the Book Elene gave me" Steven said. Lola nodded. "I have a bible too, I just didn't really grow up reading it" Precious said with a shrug. "Now that you know, it's important to begin, there's assurance in it" Lola said.
The door opened as soon as they heard the knock. Kate came in and they all looked towards the door. "Sorry to interrupt, buh there's someone here, particularly for Steven" Kate said. "Precious didn't introduce any of us, how'd you know his name was Steven?" Lola asked. "Oh" Kate was taken aback. "I think I met him before" Kate said. "I don't think I remember" Steven said. Kate tightened her lips "Elene showed him to me once, before she passed away" Kate said calmly. Precious knew now, she was close enough for her mother to tell her deep secrets. "You knew who my mother was?" Precious asked. "Yes, I knew her true self, buh we were both so young and unwise that we didn't realize trying to solve it on our own was a silly decision" Kate said. "Your father knew too, I think he sensed it and that was why he sent me here. He stopped attending the church after your mother left, and since I am still a believer, he thought he'd be wise to have me watch over you for a while" Kate said.
"If you're a believer, you could help us out" Steven said slowly. "With what?" Kate asked. "But first, who's here to see me? I don't think I have anyone that's supposed to look for me" Steven asked. "It's Bunmi" Kate said. "Who's that?" Precious asked. "Harry's daughter" Kate replied.
"You know his name too?" Steven asked Kate. "Who's Harry now?" Lola asked. "He's the force's leader, the one who wants Precious into the dark force"
The way you put the gospel in a relative manner. The dexterity 👏👏👏👏
